
The Research Committee of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, headed by Jan Rey M. Flores, RSW, Head of the Caraga Center for Peace and Development (CCPD), initiated the ‘Kapehan,’ a series of writing meetups among committee members and invited faculty researchers to produce research proposals responding to ongoing call for papers or abstracts from prospective funders and research institutions in the country.
The 1st Kapehan was held on March 25, 2021 at CAS Accreditation Room in response to the call for papers in the 2021 International Conference on Research, Innovation, and Investment organized by the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), Cagayan de Oro City. The 1st Kapehan produced five (5) abstracts accepted for oral presentation in the said conference.
Prof. Ruth E. Sanchez, CHaSS Dean, congratulated the Research Committee and the Caraga Center for Peace and Development (CCPD) for the fruitful gathering through a Facebook Group post.

Meanwhile, members of the CHaSS ResCom met on April 7, 2021 at CAS Accreditation Room for the 2nd Kapehan. The gathering aimed to produce a proposal concept note for the National Research Council of the Philippines (NCRP) Call for Proposals for 2023.
The proposal concept note produced by the committee highlighting the role of the CCPD revolves around LAWIG Mindanao: Leveraging Action-Response for the Welfare of the Individual and Groups in Mindanao, along the backdrop of research initiatives dealing with the social dimensions of the pandemic or Kapakanan ng Tao sa Oras ng Pandemya (KTOP) under the umbrella term MALASAKIT described as the agenda geared towards enhancing the social fabric for Inclusive Nation Building as categorized in the 2017-2022 National Integrated Basic Research Agenda (NIBRA).
‘This Kapehan series aims to promote collaboration among CHaSS ResCom members and invited faculty researchers in brainstorming and writing research proposals,’ Mr. Flores emphasized, ‘and to leverage the human manpower of the College and the Center (CCPD) for research capacity building in responding to the call for a more inclusive research culture in the University by highlighting the contribution of these research work produced by the College in enhancing the social dimensions of research towards an inclusive nation building,’ the CCPD Head added. –CHaSS PIWO
